The band started giving the “Tommy Award” as a spirit award back in the spring of 2008. The recipient is selected by the band kids, and it’s an award that the kids treasure. Each year the students choose a student whom they feel embodies the same fun-loving and positive spirit that Tommy showed. The recipient receives a plaque at the annual band awards program, and his/her name is added to a wall plaque that hangs in the band room below a beautiful photo of Tommy in his band uniform. The plaque has the following inscription:

Whose Spirit Lifted This Band
